Freed From Everything

May 10, 2026

In 2019, the Chicago Public Library wiped out generations of overdue book fines — and 15,000 people walked back through the doors. Turns out, forgiveness changes everything. But what if someone could do more than wipe the fine? What if they handed you a brand-new library card, no record of ever being late? In this message from Acts 13, we follow Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey to Pisidian Antioch, where Paul stands up in the synagogue and unpacks the heart of the gospel: "By him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:39). Not just forgiven — freed. Not just pardoned — justified. As if you never did anything wrong. Four movements from the text: If you're uncertain of your freedom — remember the past If you're discouraged in sharing — some will not believe If you're sowing the seed — some will receive If you're facing opposition — shake it off and rejoice From John Mark's departure to Barnabas playing "second fiddle," from David's repentant heart to a Coptic Christian in Egypt with a blue cross tattooed on his wrist — the message lands the same way: you can't earn it, but Jesus already did. And he gives it freely to everyone who believes.
