When Our Sovereign God Moves
February 15, 2026
When God moves, it is never random. It is never accidental. In Acts 8, we see a sovereign God orchestrating a divine appointment on a desert road that would carry the gospel beyond borders and toward the ends of the earth. What looks like interruption is actually mission.
This message walks through four movements in this powerful passage:
1. Moved by the Spirit for mission – Philip leaves visible revival to obey God on a desert road, showing us that obedience matters more than platform (Acts 8:26–29).
2. Moved to believe in Jesus for salvation – Beginning with Isaiah 53, Philip explains the Scriptures and proclaims Christ. Understanding leads to belief, and belief leads to salvation (Acts 8:30–35).
3. Moved to public obedience in baptism – The Ethiopian’s faith immediately expresses itself in baptism, a public declaration that he belongs to Jesus (Acts 8:36–38).
4. Moved beyond borders to the ends of the earth – The Spirit carries Philip away, the Ethiopian rejoices, and the gospel advances toward Africa, fulfilling the widening promise of Acts 1:8 (Acts 8:39–40).
This passage reminds us that being spiritually moved is more than feeling something. It is being directed somewhere. When our Sovereign God moves, people go, people believe, people obey, and the gospel keeps moving.
The question is not whether God is moving. The question is whether we are paying attention and willing to follow.
